The situation

VMs reach the network through virtual switches and port groups. Build and inspect them.

Where to do it (free)

  • Open a free VMware Hands-on Labs vSphere lab at hol.vmware.com (real vCenter in your browser, no install), or use VMware Workstation Pro (free for personal use) with a nested ESXi if you have the RAM.
  • Everything below is clicked in the vSphere Client (the vCenter web UI).

What you will do

  1. Find the host switch
  2. Create a port group
  3. Identify VMkernel traffic
  4. Distributed vs standardquestion

How it works

The lab opens in your browser: a real terminal or desktop, nothing to install. Work through the tasks, press Check after each one and the portal verifies your work. Stuck? Ask for a hint. Finish every task and you get a certificate page with its own verification link for LinkedIn or your CV.
