The situation
You have added a new router R1 in Packet Tracer. Before anything else, give it an identity and lock down management access.
Build this in Packet Tracer
- Drag 1 router (e.g. 4321 or 2911) → label it R1, and 1 PC → PC1.
- Connect R1 Gi0/0/0 (or Gi0/0) to PC1 FastEthernet0 with a copper straight-through cable.
- Power stays on; you configure everything from the device CLI tab.
What you will do
- Name the device
- Secure privileged EXEC
- Set the management IP
- Enable SSH
- Why a secret, not a password?question
How it works
The lab opens in your browser: a real terminal or desktop, nothing to install. Work through the tasks, press Check after each one and the portal verifies your work. Stuck? Ask for a hint. Finish every task and you get a certificate page with its own verification link for LinkedIn or your CV.
